רחובות שכונת מישור הגפן באופקים לאחר ה-7.10 היו מוכים הרס רב; בתים נשרפו, קירות חוררו, גדרות נפלו, רכוש רב נפגע, ההרס והשכול הורגשו ברחובות הפצועים. שבועיים לאחר הלחימה, התערבבו זו בזו סוכות החג שטרם פורקו עם סוכות האבלים, אנדרטאות הוקמו באופן ספונטני על ידי התושבים במקומות בהם אירעו מקרי הרצח, גרפיטי של כאב וזעזוע לצד אמירות חיזוק רוססו על קירות בניינים.

במהלך החצי שנה לאחר האסון, ליקטה אלמה מכנס קז במצלמתה את סיפורי הבניינים והמרחב: צילומים הממחישים את גודל האסון והכאב לצד תחילתו של תהליך שיפוץ, תיקון ובנייה, במסגרתו הגדֵרות מוקמות מחדש, החורים והסדקים הרבים בקירות מתמלאים ומבקשים להחזיר את החיים.
בחוברת הנצחה זו הצילומים עברו עיבוד של הפשטה באופן דיגיטלי, והפכו כמו לקווי מתאר של איורים ודימויים. התיעוד הצילומי, שבדרך כלל מקפיא זיכרון בזמן, הופך לכזה שמציע את זיכרון ההרס וזיכרון הבנייה מחדש גם יחד. הם אוגדו לחוברת צביעה אשר מבקשת להציע מבט אחר להנצחה, גמיש יותר, תוך התבוננות על הזיכרון באמצעות כלים ויזואלים.

COLORING BOOK
Medarom Festival for Multidisciplinary Art Ofakim, 2024

Following October 7th, the streets of Mishor HaGeffen neighbourhood in Ofakim were shattered; houses were burned, walls were perforated, fences fell, and a great deal of property was damaged. Destruction and grief filled the wounded streets. Two weeks after the combat, the holiday ‘sukkah’ huts, not yet dismantled, turned into tents of mourning. Monuments were spontaneously established by the residents, in the places where the murders took place; graffiti texts of pain and shock, alongside statements of encouragement, were sprayed on the building walls.

During the past half-year following the disaster, Alma Machness Kass captured the stories of these buildings and this space: photographs that illustrate the scale of the catastrophe, and the pain that accompanies the renovation process. A process of repair and construction, during which fences are restored, while the holes and cracks in the walls are filled with the hope to restore life.
In this commemorative booklet, the photographs underwent a digital process of abstraction, and became outlines of illustrations and images. Photographic documentation, which usually freezes memory in time, becomes one that offers both the memory of destruction and the memory of reconstruction. Both of these aspects are combined in a coloring-book which offers a different, more flexible perspective on commemoration, while observing the concept of memory through visual tools.
