ON THE BANK OF JORDAN

In 2022, Alma Machness-Kass visited Nahariya for three months, as part of the ZUMO Artist Residency Program in the city. She chose to pay attention to a significant population that gradually disappears from the public space. Over the years, many of Nahariya's well-known hotels have become homes for the elderly. Machness-Kass accompanied residents of the Jordan nursing home, located right next to Nahariya's beaches. There, she met people, known in professional parlance as ‘feeble’, who have rich and diverse lives, families, and occupations. In light of cognitive decline, they are required to retire from social life and disappear from the public sphere.
